Sunday or Wednesday
4pm Meet a crew member at Windsor and Eton Riverside Railway Station and be escorted to Magna Carta, moored less than 1 minute walk away. Welcome aboard, Champagne reception and 1 hour cruise enjoying stunning views of Windsor Castle up to our overnight mooring at Boveney Lock.
Monday or Thursday
This morning we cruise up past the Rowing lake at Dorney, owned and used by Eton College and the venue for the 2012 Olympics. Past Oakley Court Hotel (famous as the castle in the “Rocky Horror Picture Show”) and up through the locks of Bray and Boulters to the magnificent Cliveden reach. We pass some wonderful riverside homes at Bray and pass under Brunel’s railway bridge, the widest brick span arch in the world! We moor at the Cliveden estate and go into the house for afternoon tea. After tea we tour the gardens.
Cliveden was once owned by the Astor family, though the original house dates back to 1666. The grounds are simply amazing and include a Parterre, Chinese water garden and topiary. We discuss the political intrigue and scandal for which Cliveden is famous!!. A late afternoon cruise takes us to a stunning mooring at Cookham Lock. Artist Sir Stanley Spencer, one of England’s greatest and most eccentric painters, once described Cookham as ‘Heaven on Earth’. Much of his work was painted in and around Cookham. Dinner aboard.
Tuesday or Friday
After breakfast we take a walk around the delightful village of Cookham and visit Stanley Spencer’s Gallery to see some of his fine work. Now we turn Magna Carta and experience a downstream cruise seeing the glorious sights and countryside from a different perspective and enjoying the most stunning views of Windsor Castle which we visit in the afternoon. Built by William the Conqueror in 1066 and lived in for over 900 years by the Royal Family. This is the largest inhabited castle in the world. We explore the State Apartments, See Queen Mary’s Dolls House and St George’s Chapel and enjoy the far-reaching views from its elevated fortress position. Dinner aboard
Wednesday or Saturday.
9.30am Depart after breakfast with drop off at The Stafford London or Heathrow airport.
